Brookline was first settled as a hamlet called Muddy River in 1638 and was considered to be part of Boston. It was incorporated as a separate town in 1705. Today, it is home to just under 60,000 people. One of the town’s most famous residents is 35th President John F. Kennedy, who was born in Brookline in 1917. Kennedy’s birthplace is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is open to the public from May to September.
